Continue the Tradition:
Join Us for Our Seventh Annual Hike to the Top
Sunday, October 24, 2010
We’ll meet at Mountainside Elks lot at 8:30 AM for carpooling to the mountain.
If you prefer to drive to the mountain yourself, see the directions below.
We’ll step off on the trail at 10 AM.
What you’ll need to bring:
- Daypack containing lunch, 2 liters water
- Extra warm clothing, and raingear.
- Good hiking boots are strongly recommended.
- I’ll bring the cookies.
Note: This is a strenuous 8-mile hike, but it is not difficult.
You should be in good physical condition. There are no chairlifts!
You’ll be rewarded with fabulous views, interesting geology, and beautiful fall colors as we walk along Schunemunk’s rocky ridge.
Expect the hike to take 5-6 hours, followed by optional dinner served family-style at a German restaurant. Steady rain cancels.

Directions: Travel any route to get on NYS Thruway (I-87) Northbound. Exit Thruway at Exit 16 (Harriman) following signs to the right for Route 6 and Route 17. Immediately after tolls, exit right. At traffic light, turn right onto Route 32 and head north through villages of Central Valley and Highland Mills. Look for a Thruway overpass above highway. Shortly after overpass, turn left at sign for Black Rock Fish & Game Club. After a short downhill, follow Taylor Road to the left over a small bridge and then cross another bridge over the Thruway. Park on the right side of road, just after crossing the Thruway bridge.
