The Western Trip is upon us but before
I go any further I would like to thank
and congratulate Deanna Altman for a great
job as Vice President and filling in for
me. Watchung as you know my company closed
my location and have had me traveling
since July, I apologize for not being
there but I am comfortable in the fact
that Deanna, the council and you as a
whole are running the club. My heart is
with all of you as I wish I could be there
every Thursday.
The year has been marred
with bad weather and unseasonable ski
conditions for our Sunday trips. We
have had to cancel two Sunday trips.
But the trips to Windham and Lake Placid
were outstanding successes. Due to the
fact that the skiing was excellent and
we were able to induct 5 new members.
Give 4 prospective members the basic
skills evaluation. But Vermont has been
kind to our skiers who have visited
and skied. Plus a few of our club members
have also visited out west this year
and enjoyed the skiing.
As you all know we have
50 skiers heading west this Saturday
to the newly expanded 1700 acres of
Telluride. For 6 days of skiing fun
with our biggest Western trip ever,
John Ski may I say FANTASTIC job. As
we all know traveling is different from
a year ago. Since I have been traveling
for the last 8 Months may I list a few
changes that have happen.
ID has to be shown over
and over so do not put it away until
you are sitted on the plane. Gentlemen
who have leathermen, pocketknives and
are other sharp objects make sure you
pack them in your luggage that you check.
Once you check your luggage at the counter
you might have to follow it to be scanned
. While it is being scanned they hold
your boarding pass. To get your boarding
pass you have to show ID. Do not bring
nail clippers, files and or any metal
that can be used to harm or injury someone.
Be prepared to take your shoes and coats
of to be x rayed. May I suggest that
if you have a phone, beeper, keys and
or etc place it in your coat pockets,Ladies
here is where you have to make sure
you do not have any steel combs, pics,
beauty products that have edges. Everything
gets scanned, not all scanners are set
at the same levels. Sometimes even your
buckles and clasps set them off. Ladies
may I suggest no metal clasps and or
underwire. I have seen women get upset
over the inspection which is a woman
cupping you to make sure that nothing
is hidden.
The above is just a few
of the negatives about traveling. I
do feel that it is safer then ever.
We still have our club outing at Belleayre
and the legendary Jay Peak trip after
the WESTERN TRIP. Even though we only
have 25% of our season left. There still
is a lot of great skiing to be had.
So I urge all of you to get out and
enjoy it while you can. Go wherever
you have to SKI.
I look forward to seeing all of you
soon. SKI HEIL Watchung
