Our season is in full swing, and if you haven.t gotten your skis wet by now, you really have missed a whole lot of fun. Our busses have been full of happy campers, the snow has been fantastic here in the East, and in Telluride we had the best of sunshine and powder days. All those stuffy meetings melt away when the event comes off without a hitch and .Mother Nature. is in our corner.
As your President, the most enjoyment I have seen this year is a strong influx of new people coming to our meetings and on our trips. Everyone looks like they are having a great time and are mixing well with the members. This is what makes the Watchung Ski Club strong and survivable.
Coming soon is our Club Outing. This annual event, started by our founders, was and is the highlight of our season. For me, the old days were at Plattekill. Watchung came and took over the hill. Lunch was on the mountain with silly races following. The big event was the official club race. It was .put up or shut up time. with most people taking this event really seriously. (In the old days, Watchung was quite a racing club.. just look in the club trophy case!) We are not as serious about racing as we were previously, but beating our friends is still a lot of fun. Have you ever tried to ski the gates? It really is a blast! I challenge you to come and try!
Finally, I must go back to my same old theme. Our season is doing fantastically and I look forward to the rest of it. The success comes from all of you, from the people running the trips to the man writing the checks. But most of all, it.s the members who show up in our colors, come to our meetings, and fill the bus seats that are keeping the spirit of Watchung alive. See you March 1. THANKS!
