Devastation in the Catskill Area

Fellow WASC members,

Ernie Bieser called me today to talk about the continuing devastation of the people of the Catskill area. Many are still living in shelters or are in trailers with as many as 10 people. Many escaped with just the clothes on their backs--they did not have the leisure time or space to pack many outfits or multiple seasons of clothing. With arrival of Fall, most of these folks do not have the warm clothing to deal with the forthcoming cold weather.

Ernie is working with a local group to collect used, clean, warm outerwear to distribute to local flood victims. He wanted to know if WASC members would help in this effort especially since the club has such a long history associated with the Catskill area.

They are looking for jackets, coats, hats, scarves, mittens and gloves for all--men, women and children of all ages.

Anyone contributing and going on the Hudson River boatride (10/29/11) could give goods directly to Ernie that day. For those not attending--Jack & I would be happy to collect items at the next few meetings and transfer them to him at the boat.

If anyone has questions, they could email Ernie directly.

I'd be willing to bet that just about everyone has a coat or jacket sitting in their house that hasn't been worn in ages. I think we have 4 or 5 in our front hallway closet alone. Any old ski jackets? They aren't just for skiing anymore.

Thank you,

Carol
