Pyramid Mountain
Sunday, June 16 was a beautiful day for a hike at Pyramid Mountain , part of the Morris County Park Commission.

Although it was a warm day, we were under the shade of the trees for most of the day.

I was joined by Joe and his son, also Joe and Elvira for 4 miles of hiking at leisurely pace.

We hiked along the Taylortown Reservoir,

where Elvira spotted a snake sunning himself on rock. Back on the trail we passed 2 of NJ’s largestglacial erratics named Whale Head Rock and Bear Rock both were deposited by the Wisconsin Glacier at the end of the last glacial period.

After a brief trail lunch stop, we hiked down the mountain to the Big Cat Swamp .

The group decided to end the hike by taking a level trail that which skirted the perimeter of Park.

Everyone had a good time; noting we would all continue to hike this summer to get in shape for Joe’s hike in October.

My next hike is scheduled for Sunday September 23, 10:00am at Jockey Hollow.
